Deleting your account

Your account and your data, gone when you say so — here's exactly how, and exactly what goes. Last updated September 28, 2026.

Delete it yourself, in the app

Subscribed to Taken Plus? Cancel it first, where you bought it — the App Store, Google Play, or your taken.love receipt. Deleting your Taken account does not stop a store from billing you.

This is the fastest route and it needs nobody's help:

  1. 1. Sign in and open Settings → Account.
  2. 2. Choose Delete my account.
  3. 3. Type your own email address to confirm. We ask for it because deletion is immediate and cannot be undone — there is no grace period and no recycle bin.

It happens straight away. You'll be signed out, and this device stops receiving the account's notifications as part of the same step.

Can't sign in? Ask us

If you've lost access to your account, email admin@taken.love from the address you signed up with and ask us to delete the account. A person reads it. We'll confirm before doing anything irreversible, and we'll write back when it's done.

If you can still sign in but your password isn't working, a password reset is quicker than waiting on us.

What deletion removes

Everything below goes, immediately:

  • • Your account — your sign-in, email, display name, pronouns, gender, birthdate, timezone and settings.
  • • Everything you wrote — profile notes, daily answers, gratitude and mood entries, wishlists, important dates, love notes, letters, journal entries, repair notes, appreciations, game and quiz answers, and your intimacy preferences and boundaries.
  • • Your files — your avatar and the photos you added to moments are removed from storage, not just unlinked.
  • • Your notification tokens — no device can receive a push for the account afterwards.

Your relationship is ended first, before anything else happens, so your partner lands back in a clean solo space rather than a half-empty shared one. They are not told what you chose — only that the relationship has ended.

What doesn't go, and why

Three honest exceptions. We'd rather name them than let you find out later:

  • • Shared things you started. A date idea you added to the shared list, a goal the two of you set, a fact about the two of you — those belong to the relationship rather than to one side of it, so they stay for your partner with your name detached from them.
  • • Anonymous usage counters. Taken records that things happened — a game was started, the app was opened — for our own totals. Those rows survive with your identity stripped out of them, so they can no longer be traced to you or to anyone.
  • • Encrypted backups. Our database provider takes automatic backups on a rolling schedule, so a deleted row can still sit in a backup until it rotates out. We never restore from a backup to bring deleted data back.

Your partner's own writing stays theirs. Things they wrote — their answers, their notes to you — belong to their account, not yours, so deleting your account doesn't delete their side. They can delete theirs the same way.

Want a copy first?

Deletion is permanent, so take your things with you if you want them. From your export page you can download a file of what you've added, any time, without asking us — do that before you delete, not after. There is no way for us to recover an account once it's gone.
