just a moment…
just a moment…
The short, human version: your relationship is yours. Last updated September 28, 2026.
Taken is a shared space for two people. We collect only what the app needs to work, we never sell your data, and we never use what you write to train AI models.
What you keep private stays private — enforced on our servers, not just in the app. Every table in our database carries per-couple access rules, so a request for someone else's row comes back empty even if the app asks for it.
Account: your email and a display name; optionally pronouns, gender, a birthdate, an avatar, timezone, and quiet-hours preferences. Your birthdate unlocks age-gated features and shows your partner your birthday — nothing else reads it.
What you add: the things you write in Taken — profile notes, daily answers, gratitude and mood entries, wishlists, important dates, notes, moments, letters, journal entries, game and quiz answers, and (for consenting couples) intimacy preferences.
Technical: a device push token if you turn on notifications, and standard security and operational logs.
If you subscribe to Taken Plus: which plan you have, when it renews or ends, and which store it came from. We never receive your card or bank details. Your partner sees only that Plus is on for you both — never who pays, when it renews, or where it was bought.
How you use the app: we record a small set of first-party usage events — that a game was started, that the app was opened, which step of setup you reached. They are ours alone: stored in our own database, readable only by you and by us, never shared with an advertising or analytics company, and never shown to your partner. We do not run any third-party analytics, any ad SDK, any session replay, or any cross-site tracker. Nothing here follows you off Taken.
If you write to us: the messages you send from Help and our replies, plus what the form tells you it attaches — the app version, the kind of device, the screen you came from, and a screenshot only if you add one. Only the Taken team reads them; your partner never sees them. Beside a message the team sees your name, when you joined and when you last signed in — never your letters, journal, answers or profile.
Photos you upload keep the metadata your camera or phone put in the file. If you would rather not store a photo's original capture details, send a copy rather than the original.
You choose, per item. Things you mark shared or silent are visible to your active partner; private items are yours alone. Some things are never shared with anyone: your solo journal, and your intimacy passes — a partner only ever sees what you both want, never what you declined.
Your live sharing state is always viewable in your Privacy Center.
AI features are optional and off unless you opt in. AI runs only on our servers — the key never touches your device — and only ever uses profile items you have explicitly consented to, one item at a time. Care & comfort notes are treated as sensitive and stay off unless you enable them.
Profile suggestions: when AI is on and you tap “Suggest answers”, the AI reads your own daily answers — never your partner's — to suggest profile answers. Nothing is saved unless you tap Add.
Intimacy data is never sent to AI at all. Not at any setting, not with any consent — there is no code path that can.
Party games: when you use the AI option, the player names you type never leave Taken. The AI only sees stand-ins like “Player 1”; we swap the real names back in on our side.
We never use your data to train AI models, and our AI provider's terms do not permit training on what we send them.
Taken is for adults building a relationship together. Age-gated features are gated on a birthdate you enter, checked on our servers — the app cannot grant itself access. If a birthdate no longer meets the bar, access is removed automatically.
Two different checks, and they are deliberately different: seeing an intimacy match requires that both of you have verified 18+, so neither of you can learn the other's answer alone. The explicit card decks require that you have verified 18+, plus a spice ceiling the two of you set together — where lowering the ceiling takes effect immediately for either of you, and raising it needs you both.
We run Taken on other companies' infrastructure. Each of these handles data on our behalf, under contract, for the purpose named — none of them is paid to advertise to you, and we don't sell your data to anyone:
And one you choose yourself: if you subscribe to Taken's calendar feed, your date titles, times and places are read by whichever calendar you subscribed with — Google, Apple, Outlook. That link works by being secret rather than by asking who you are, so anyone who has the URL can read the feed. You can rotate it any time from Settings, which instantly breaks the old one.
Taken is not for children, and it is not directed at anyone under 18. We don't knowingly collect anything from a child. If you believe a child has made an account, write to admin@taken.love and we will delete it and the data with it.
Depending on where you live, data-protection law gives you rights over your information. Taken is built so most of them are self-service:
Our servers and our providers are in the United States, so using Taken means your data is processed there. If you are in the UK or the EU and you think we've got something wrong, you can also complain to your national data-protection authority — but please tell us first; we would rather fix it.
We keep what you add for as long as your account is open, because that is the app — a journal you can look back through is the point. Nothing here expires on a timer.
If you and your partner part ways, the relationship is closed and your shared things stop being shared — no phantom link left behind. Each of you keeps your own side.
When you delete your account, your rows are deleted immediately — not flagged, not archived. Three honest caveats. First, the small usage counters described above survive, with your identity stripped out of them, so our totals don't silently change. Second, a safety report you filed stays with us, detached from your account, so a concern you raised isn't lost the moment you leave; it keeps only the words you wrote. (Messages you sent us from Help are deleted with your account.) Third, our database provider takes automatic encrypted backups on a rolling schedule, so a deleted row can still exist in a backup until it rotates out; we never restore from a backup to bring deleted data back.
If we change this in a way that matters — a new provider, a new use of your data, a changed obligation — we'll tell you in the app and ask you to read it, rather than quietly swapping the page. Taken records which version of this policy you agreed to, so that prompt can only reach people who haven't seen the new one. Small fixes (clearer wording, a typo) just get the date at the top bumped.
Taken is built and operated by Dead Center Studios LLC, a New York limited liability company. We're the ones responsible for the data described above.
